NC-IPC & SC-IPC
Joint Symposium

This event is co-hosted by the NC Invasive Plant Council and the SC Invasive Pest Council.  After a 3-year hiatus we are coming back together and are very excited about the opportunity to hold an in-person event!!!

Our 2022 joint symposium will be held near Charlotte, NC

Location:   Hilton Garden Inn, Rock Hill, SC
Date:  November 16-18  (Wednesday - Friday)

This year's event will span three days.  Here is a summary of the format:
  • Wednesday; begin at 1PM with a keynote speaker followed by formal presentations and chapter meetings (which will occur as breakout sessions).
  • Thursday; presentations in the morning, field trips after lunch, and a social event back on site with food, drink, and live music.
  • Friday; presentations plus annual meetings (breakout sessions) in the morning with closing remarks by noon.

This event has recruited speakers from both North and South Carolina, including Clemson University, UNC-Chapel Hill, NCSU, Mountain True, SC DNR, NC Dept. of Ag, and the U.S. Forest Service.  See below for link to agenda.

A networking opportunity for all; ample time is worked into the program to allow for mingling and for vendors to promote products and services.

Sharpen your aquatic plant identification skills.  Live plants will be on display, with a focus on the noxious aquatic weeds common in the Carolinas.

Vendor booths and display areas for non-profit groups are available.  See link below for vendor/sponsor info.

Field trips:
In the afternoon of the second day you may choose to participate in one of the field trips.  Destinations being considered include Landsford Canal, Kings Mountain State Park, & Rock Hill Black Jack's Heritage Preserve.

Thursday Evening Social:
A sponsored reception will be held on site from 6:00-8:00.  Food, drink, and live music featuring Stillhouse (a good-vibes band out of  Columbia, SC).

A silent auction is planned to take place during the Thursday Evening Social.  Holding a silent auction has become a tradition for both NC-IPC and SC-IPC and we anticipate a wide variety of items, including some hand-made items.  Donated items help to raise funds for invasive species educational and management efforts through your state IPC.
Please consider bringing an item to donate.  Contact Sudie Thomas: sudie.thomas@usda.gov or 803-664-0806 to let us know so we can prepare.....   and if you decide to donate at the last minute, don’t worry, just bring it.  Examples include books, tools, art, native plants, clothing, chemicals, and services.
