EDRR Workshops & EDD Maps (Under Construction)

EDRR
Conceptually EDRR is the simplistic idea that identifying invasive species early in their infestation timeline and quickly responding with management/control activities will position you better to successfully remove that invasive species, and to do it for a fraction of the cost that would be required if the infestation is allowed to grow/spread.

The EDRR concept justifies the building of frameworks such as Weed Management Areas, developing and implementing monitoring plans, communication plans and management plans.  All of these things lead to more effective land stewardship.

Here is an example of a Weed Management Area in NC:
North Carolina Sandhills Weed Management Area

EDDMapS
EDDMapS is a web-based mapping tool to help locate and report invasive species infestations all over the United States.  It was developed by The University of Georgia - Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health to help us track and manage invasive species distribution data.

The EDDMapS website provides information on:
• Invasive plant and animal species
• Distribution of species by state and county
• Access to point data for GIS
• Statistics
• Educational and control resources

Example map: Distribution of Tree-of-Heaven in the United States
